Rev. Michael Dowd is inviting us to meet up with him for further conversation about his sermon Sunday, July 25th and a short 25-minute video he’d like us to see before then. The YouTube video presentation is titled, “Serenity Prayer for the 21st Century: Pro-Future Love-in-Action,” which serves as a primer to stay sane, sober and heartfelt in contracting times. It focuses on issues related to intergenerational justice, climate change, ecological overshoot, true vs. delusional sustainability, and how to discern what to accept and what to passionately engage in.

The program expands on content in his two TEDx talks and his book, THANK GOD FOR EVOLUTION, which was endorsed by six Nobel Prize winning scientists along with noted skeptics and religious leaders across the spectrum. To view the video, click here

Since April 2002, Rev. Dowd and his wife, UU science writer and fellow climate activist Connie Barlow, traveled North America in a van delivering talks at some 500 UU congregations, summer camps, and minister retreats, as well as for other religious and secular groups. Their pro-science, pro-future ministry was featured as the cover story of our national membership magazine, UU World, in the spring of 2006. In 2016, Michael and Connie were honored as “UU Religious Humanists of the Year” at General Assembly in Columbus, Ohio. They just recently parked their van and settled in Ypsilanti, Michigan to be near their granddaughter.

Rev. Dowd has graciously offered the August 2nd discussion with SWUU to answer questions and engage in discussion about the ideas and issues he presents. Please mark the date on your calendar and please join in. Look forward to seeing you in our SWUU Zoom Room.
