2007-2008 Ways to Connect

At SouthWest Unitarian Universalist Church

Berea, Ohio

  Welcome

We have an active series of programs designed to connect our members, friends, and visitors outside of the Sunday Service. Take a look at the descriptions below and see what sounds interesting to you. Of course, we are always interested in new ideas.

The dates and times for the programs may change throughout the year. See our monthly Calendar section for up-to-date postings.

Be sure to look into our Adult RE classes for more opportunities to connect. Information can be found at the bottom of our Religious Education link.

Choir

The choir performs monthly, enriching our worship services with music from a variety of genres. Newcomers are always welcome.

Circle Suppers

Circle suppers are held in the homes of our members and friends from time to time. Individuals sign up to host, or to bring a particular dish to share.

Over 50’s Group

This group is for women and meets on the third Friday at 2 PM each month. Meetings are held either in someone’s home or in the church office depending on the person who is leading that month’s session. The leader may pick a topic of her choice (spirituality, aging, relationships, etc) or choose to continue a topic someone else may have previously discussed.

Women in History

Once a month, on the second Saturday at 3:30 PM, we meet in the church office. The topic at the moment is Women in History but this is subject to change based on the desire of the group.  We usually go out to dinner after the  meeting.

Coffee Klatch

On the first Friday of every month, we gather at the coffee shop—9:30 AM—and have an open discussion about any topic anyone chooses. All are welcome.

Cook’s Night Out

On the fourth Friday night of every month (7 PM) we select a restaurant and go out together. Typically there are 10 to 12 people who attend.

Book Discussion Group

While there is not a specific group at this moment, over the years we have had several groups. If anyone would like to start one again, there would be anywhere from 2 to 10 people who might choose to attend depending on the subject matter.

Course on Miracles Discussion Group

On Wednesdays, 1 to 3 PM, a few people get together in the church office to study the course. All are welcome.

Spiritual Odyssey Group

In the formation stage, this covenant group’s intent is to provide a safe place to share our personal histories, thereby getting to know each other better and learning to understand how our opinions have been formed. Dates and times have not yet been established.

Newcomer’s Group

A monthly orientation for people new to the church or Unitarian Universalism. We meet in the sanctuary at Kulas Hall following the service, tour the facilities and end up at our office facility on 50 Front St. This is an opportunity to connect with other people new to the church, as well as a brief introduction to our faith. Sundays, 12:00 –1:00 pm.

Walking Group

In warm weather the walking group hikes in local parks once or twice a month on Saturday mornings.  Join the SWUU list to receive information on locations.

Canvass Kick-off

This annual event marks the beginning of our pledge drive, and includes dessert and a musical comedy show. Members, friends and visitors are welcome… adults and children as well.

Service Auction

This annual “funraiser” is a time to show off your talent during our variety show, or to enjoy those songs and stories that don’t quite make it into our Sunday worship service. Through a silent auction and a cash and carry table, donations are given to the church.

Whatever You Initiate

Our growing community supports an ever expanding array of small groups to ensure that individuals have a secure place in which to undertake religious exploration. If you have an interest around which a new group might start, contact Rev. Chris Neilson to see if there are others with a similar interest.

All programs are open to the public. There is no fee but donations are accepted.
