SWUU Summer Camp

Do you enjoy sleeping in the foliage-scented air, listening to the night sounds of the crickets and katydids? Does the idea of making “s’mores” and singing rounds by a campfire resonate with your spiritual awareness? Do you connect with your place in the universe when you are awakened by the smell of wood-smoke and morning coffee wafting through the cool morning mist?  Would you like to start your day with the early morning sun reflecting through the forest canopy?

Our 25th annual SWUU Summer Camp will be the weekend of July 27. This adventurous event is for all SWUU members and friends who enjoy tent camping.

This summer’s event will be at Salt Fork State Park. This beautiful park is located 110 miles from North Royalton. It is about a two hour drive.

Salt Fork is Ohio’s largest state park with 17,229 acres. There are 14 miles of hiking trails.

The park features forested hills, open meadows, and misty valleys, threaded by numerous streams. There is a lake with a beach and golfing for those who may be interested.

Some of the activities we do at camp, besides the usual shenanigans, are hiking, yard-games, quiet reading,  swimming, and my favorite- looking under rocks for little critters. The last hours of the evening, sitting around a campfire are always interesting. Sharing insights in this setting with SWUUer’s is thought-provoking , engaging, and often leaves me feeling “Spiritually Connected.”

The camp is primitive. There are pit toilets.  Pets are permitted. All campers are required to bring their own gear (tents, sleeping bags, air mattress, cooking & eating utensils, lanterns, bug spray, etc.).

There is a sign-up sheet. We have a group camp this year. The fee for campers is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

If you would like to attend, but are not so comfortable with sleeping outdoors with the critters, the park also has cottages and a  beautiful lodge. You will need to make your own reservations for this however. The cottages may only be available for a minimum of a week.
