2011-2012 Ways to Connect

At SouthWest Unitarian Universalist Church

North Royalton, Ohio

  Welcome

We have an active series of programs designed to connect our members, friends, and visitors outside of the Sunday Service. Take a look at the descriptions below and see what sounds interesting to you. Of course, we are always interested in new ideas.

The dates and times for the programs may change throughout the year. See our monthly Calendar section for up-to-date postings.

Be sure to look into our Adult RE classes for more opportunities to connect. Information can be found at the bottom of our Religious Education link.

Choir

The choir performs monthly, enriching our worship services with music from a variety of genres. Newcomers are always welcome.

Pot Luck Dinners

Pot luck dinners take place in the church.  Anyone can host a dinner.  All one needs to do is choose the date and time and theme, if they wish. The host is responsible for opening up and making sure the kitchen is clean and locking up before leaving.  Check the calendar for the next pot luck.  All are welcome!

Over 50’s Group

This group is for women and meets on the third Friday at 2 PM each month. Meetings are held either in someone’s home or in the church office depending on the person who is leading that month’s session. The leader may pick a topic of her choice (spirituality, aging, relationships, etc) or choose to continue a topic someone else may have previously discussed.

Women in History

Once a month, on the fourth Saturday at 3:30 PM, we meet in the church. The topic at the moment is Women in History but this is subject to change based on the desire of the group.  We usually go out to dinner after the meeting.

Coffee Klatch

On the first Friday of every month, we gather at Mugshotz at 6556 Royalton Road at 9:30 AM, and have an open discussion about any topic anyone chooses. All are welcome.

Family Game Night

On the third Friday of each month, people of all ages can meet at the church for fun, games and snacks.  The evening goes from 5-11PM but you are welcome to drop in whenever you can.  We have some games at the church but you are encouraged to bring your favorites to share.

Spiritual Study Group

On Wednesdays, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, at the Mathews’ home, we get together to read and discuss various books related to spirituality. All are welcome.

Newcomer’s Group

A monthly orientation for people new to the church or Unitarian Universalism. We meet in the sanctuary after the service.  This gives new folks an opportunity to connect with other people new to the church, as they get a brief introduction to our faith. Sundays, 12:00 –1:00 pm.

Cooks’ Night Out

Usually on the fourth Friday of the month, we meet at a local restaurant to share food and lively conversation.  Check the Forum calendar for this month’s outing.

Service Auction

This annual “funraiser” is a time to show off your talent during our variety show, or to enjoy those songs and stories that don’t quite make it into our Sunday worship service. Through a silent auction and a cash and carry table, donations are given to the church.

Quilt Toppers Group

There is a group of people who meet monthly on the third Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM to piece together fabric swatches which will be made into quilt tops to be used at a later date.  This is for people who like the fun challenge of working with different color combinations and deciding how they should go together.

Whatever You Initiate

Our growing community supports an ever expanding array of small groups to ensure that individuals have a secure place in which to undertake religious exploration. If you have an interest around which a new group might start, contact Rev. Chris Neilson to see if there are others with a similar interest

All programs are open to the public. There is no fee but donations are accepted.
